    Electro Penciled Bolt

I just picked up a Rock Island 03 in the 306,XXX range. This is the bolt body that was in it. It has a mix of parts throughout. Is this a national match bolt? It looks like 1311173. Would this serial range be from a national match rifle?

I can't make out the entire serial number 1311X73 - there is a Special Target rifle listed for 1311373, but don't know if that is it or not. Certainly a lot of NM and other "special" rifles in the 1,311,000 range - could be a bolt taken out of a "non-selling NM rifle?

I've been told that Marine Corp armorers engraved the SN on service grade rifles, but I have seen no definitive evidence that is so. If a rifle is original & letters on SRS as issued to the MC, that would certainly increase its collectibility. But, an engraved SN alone does not necessarily mean that a given bolt was used on an NM rifle.

Would'nt a bolt from an NM or Special Target be polished rather than parkerized?

It may be a reclaimed bolt from a NM rifle that was turned in. If the parts still made spec they were used.
