    Sling ID Needed

A friend gave me this sling for my carbine & was just wondering what time period it came from. Webbing has a greener looking fabric woven in, as visible in the photos. Is it a repro or original? Doesn't really matter, just curious. Whatcha think?

Thanks. Was kinda figuring it was, but had no idea how to tell. Like I said, doesn't really matter, just wanted to check & see. Also picked up a 1961 dated (on end tab) Vietnam era sling. Waiting on an oiler, so I have some time to decide which one to use on my rifle. Probably the 1961.

I've had (2) like that one, except mine were more of an OD color than khaki. One was old and worn, so I know it had been around for quite a while - like 20 or 30 years or more. The other one looked almost new. I don't know the time period, but possibly could have been something that came on some of the earlier commercial carbines. - Bob

To add: Sometimes slings were made on the commercial market and purchased by guys in the service on board Tanks. The reason is tanks had internal issue the M3A1 SMG, whcih used the carbine sling.

Many times as late as the 1980's a guy would purchase a commercial sling because his sling failed. After time, when items were turned in, fake slings ended up being in batches of Government Surplus Release.

I have had several fakes slings in original batches of GI slings which I won on bid.
