England/Ireland Vacation- Must see sites for Enfield enthusiast?

I'll be back across the pond in November. Taking a friend with me who has never been. He's about as big a history nut as I am. And the pints are a no brainer!

Thanks to everyone for the detailed suggestions!! I knew this would be a great wealth of information to start from. I wonded about the Royal Armouries in Leeds and London. I would love to tour the Pattern Room!!

Is the pattern room available to the public?

Well................., it IS........, after a fashion........ But please don't think that it is anything like it was - or even REMOTELY like it ever was when it was under the wing of the MoD. It is a national collection that is, on paper, available to the nation but......... I was going to say more but diplomacy prevents me. Get my drift.........

And don't even mention the words 'Pattern Room' in the same breath as the 'National Firearms Collection, Leeds'. They're chalk and cheese and if you say it there apparently, you'll be about as popular as a snake in a rabbit hole

I am familiar with the old Pattern room and with that knowledge comment that you had to apply some weeks in advance and state the reason for the visit and you had to be cleared by various police agencies, US, French and Canada as I remember and give them several dates for the visit. I understand there is a daily charge now to visit and xerox's must be purchased. Sic Transit Gloria!
