Navy sidearm - In honor of my grandfather

The S&W Model 10 and Victory Models in .38spl were military revolvers that were a standard-issue sidearm for US Navy and Marine aircrews, and were also used by security guards at factories and defense installations throughout the United States during the war.

One found me last week.I was concentrating on rifles but coulld not pass this one up. Very tight but obliously carried a lot. I have applied to S&W for a history letter.

How do we know that one served in the Navy vs. the Army?

I truely trust the gentleman I got it from and value his opinion.
Also happen to have the letter from S&W.
As you know.......
This is one of my favorite display pieces, especially now that my Daughter is in the Navy, Corpsman.

Your grandfather might have been issued a revolver, but the chances are much greater that it was a Model 1911 or 1911A1. As others have mentioned, more than likely he was not issued his own pistol, but only when his duty called for one.

The S&W Model 10 designation did not come along until 1957.
