I bought my two 760 round cases for $175.00 each about three years ago. It was dated 1966, but was essentially the same thing. All the rounds were in the same 32 round boxes. I've gone though about three boxes of one case and have given away one box to a buddy. Only had one "click--boom" so far. It's really accurate and when the politicians back off and the trade routes between here and Pakistan open up again, I plan on buying several more cases. Obama's election *****ed the deal on cheap surplus ammo. It went from $175.00 a case to about twice that and then the supplyer quit importing it. It'll go down again. Go ahead and shoot that $40.00 box up. By the way, it sounds to me like that surplus dealer convinced you the box was rare and thus desirable, than offered you a chance to own an unopened box. The ammo exists in the countless thousands of cases and will one day be imported again. I've got about 45 to 50 boxes of it and will sell you all for $38.00 per box!

Then should I open the box or let it sit and hope it'll be worth it in a few years?

Put it on the shelf and call it lesson learned. Go to ammoman.com and get yourself 200 rounds of Prvi Partisan .303 Britishicon in 150 or 174 grain, Boxer Primed, reloadable brass & non-corrosive. Some folks have an issue with ammoman.com so feel free to excercise your right to shop around. cheaperthan dirt, sportsmansguide, samco, use an ammo search engine like ammoengine.com
