Ersatz Flea Market Purchase

I can't afford the bayonet then gun method so for now I'm basically getting any bayonet type I don't have that I can afford and seems reasonable. I'm now seriously looking for a Chinese Mauser simply because like a complete history idiot, I neglected to include China in my list of war powers and no WWII rifle collection will be complete without an example of their weaponry.

The rifle then bayonet method doesn't always work out too well either, thus the carcano dilema. I don't need another search for another $200 bayonet after the Jungle Carbine No 5 and the Swiss 1913 pioneer.

The good thing is, the wife never or at least rarely asks how much the bayonets cost, they just sort of flow into the house and gradually make an appearance like they've always been there. Not that I'm hiding them or anything, I'm just not announcing them. She knew how much the No 5 bayonets were going for, she was involved in the search process for a while and then couldn't help hearing the yells of frustration as first they topped $200 and then $300. Fortunately, I didn't pay that much for one but then it's not the best condition either. The Pioneer just appeared at the end of the rifle one day. She didn't ask, I didn't tell.

I've rather stupidly been yammering on about how much the folding carcano bayonets are so that one won't sneak by.

As for these Chinese bayonets, I can't really find much on them to know collectability. I'll take Gew8805's word for it that they are but admittedly am curious about value and whether I got a good deal on it or not.

Old Smithy's website is back up. I didn't find a good match. The Chinese bayonet is the tri-form type, the handle looks exactly the same with the exception of the two small rivets which are larger on mine. Could only find one ersatz German bayonet on his site, that being the crank style I believe they are called.

Debating whether I want to head out to a flea market today or just relax for the holiday.

There is currently one of these selling on Ebay, has not yet made the reserve at $124.50. It has it's scabbard.

The auction ended without meeting the minimum bid at $203.50.

I'm not feeling disappointed anymore. Did some checking on Chinese Mausers and they look affordable.
