A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. Note that the Sportsman's Guide appears to be selling Korean (KA) and Iranian Surplus. They state that the Korean is 70's vintage and non-corrosive, and the Iranian is also non-corrosive. Actually I believe that the Korean IS non-corrosive because I suspect the KA headstamped ammo was switched over at some point to non-corrosive primers in the 70's (before or at the same time the Pusan arsenal "PS" produced theirs.) Some will assert that all Korean KA headstamp is corrosive, but I do not believe that. I know nothing about the Iranian ammo. I shoot a lot of KA ammo that is corrosive and the ammo and its brass is good quality. I only shoot my KA ammo in 1903s because cleaning the Garand gas system after shooting corrosive ammo does not appeal to me.

In shooting any foreign surplus, caution is in order to ensure the lot you get is really not corrosive and good quality so as not to harm your investment. I have heard the Iranian ammo is ok, but again I have no experience. The Greek HXP ammo I have is excellent quality, accurate and non-corrosive. If you can get some from CMPicon that is the best deal in town. If you get the PPU it will be noncorrosive, probably cleaner burning than surplus, and with brand new brass. So despite the price you may wish to look that over good. Good luck.
Looking at this stuff on the SGC web site a few minutes ago, they now say the Korean ammo is coorosive, Boxer-primed and reloadable. The Irania stuff is non-corrosive (according to SGC), but Berdan-primed and non-reloadable.

Neither seems like a great deal to me.

FWIW, I just bought 2 boxes of Kynoch M2 ball today at a gun show. The guy had a ton of it, probably 2 or 3 cases worth, so it appears that it's still out there somewhere.

How is the MAAC show these days? I used to live in Northville and always liked that show.

It was actually pretty good. A surprising amount of very nice milsurps. And lots of surplus ammo including the ever elusive HXP .303 brit, I'm probably going to go back today and get more ammo.

The HXP is fine, but it is hot! If you shoot it all afternoon you will be convinced it is not Lake City without looking at the headstamp.

All Korean KS head stamped M2 ball is CORROSIVE primed. If you shoot it you have to clean your rifle ASAP. In the M1icon that means a full take down to clean it or else. Easy to clean up bolt actions using it and it shoots quite well. The Iranian is listed by SAMCO who imported it as being NON CORROSIVE but I don't think I would take a chance with that and would test it to be sure before shooting it in the M1.
