    M1 Garand Surplus Ammunition

I just purchased a M1icon Garand manufactured by HRA in 1955. It is in wonderful condition. I'm interested in finding USGI surplus 30-06 ammunition for this M1. Does anyone have suggestions where I might find this ammo in bulk? Thanks from a newby!

I just got 270 rounds of m2 ball from the sportsmans guide for 142.00. Haven't shot any of it yet but I am happy with the overall apearance no dents or corosion, and it came in an ammo can.

I have done buisness with both sites already suggested, CMPicon is great(where i bought my Garandicon)! But, also check out Orion7, Tony has Greek HXP, bulk in stock. He sells different package deals as well. He is honest, fast and replies to emails quickly.

FWIW, I hear good things about the newly-made Serbian 30-06 now coming in.

I'll add to Bob Seijasicon, I have purchased and fired 160 rounds of some new PPU (serbian) recently, 2 types, 150gr SP, 150gr FMJ. And headed out tommorow to shoot some more. Both performed extremely well out of my 03a3, but keep in mind pressure curve for the M1icon Garand is sensitive, I'd rather not bend an Op rod over ammo choice. I would stick with Surplus since its widely available and cheaper(usually).

Back in the day I bought a lot of ammo made at Hanson in Yugoslaviaicon . Excelent M2 spec ball that shot well in everything I had. It dried up during thier war. Then FNM imported some M2 ball made for them . I think it was made over in the same area . Anyway , it shot good in my garands even though they listed it as 150gr FMJ at 2840 fps.
Is this PPU of which you speak the same stuff ?

"NRA" has provided an excellent link for Garandicon stuff I just added to my Favorites.

Note that the Sportsman's Guide appears to be selling Korean (KA) and Iranian Surplus. They state that the Korean is 70's vintage and non-corrosive, and the Iranian is also non-corrosive. Actually I believe that the Korean IS non-corrosive because I suspect the KA headstamped ammo was switched over at some point to non-corrosive primers in the 70's (before or at the same time the Pusan arsenal "PS" produced theirs.) Some will assert that all Korean KA headstamp is corrosive, but I do not believe that. I know nothing about the Iranian ammo. I shoot a lot of KA ammo that is corrosive and the ammo and its brass is good quality. I only shoot my KA ammo in 1903s because cleaning the Garand gas system after shooting corrosive ammo does not appeal to me.

In shooting any foreign surplus, caution is in order to ensure the lot you get is really not corrosive and good quality so as not to harm your investment. I have heard the Iranian ammo is ok, but again I have no experience. The Greek HXP ammo I have is excellent quality, accurate and non-corrosive. If you can get some from CMPicon that is the best deal in town. If you get the PPU it will be noncorrosive, probably cleaner burning than surplus, and with brand new brass. So despite the price you may wish to look that over good. Good luck.
