jlg stock? birch?
bought a couple of garand stocks locally. first was a real nice ww2 sa gaw w/nice patina/wear. the second stock was a stunning sa jlg. this stock looked like it had never been on a gun. the only thing was, it was birch (but with a lovely reddish stain). since most of you know way more than i do, help me out with this. was birch legit for a jlg? i didn't pay much for this stock, as it was just too nice, so i figured it for a shooter stock.

I would have to see the stamping to tell you if it is real 1st. They used Sapwood which mimics Birch allot of times. If it is Birch it is a fake stamp or I should say 99.9% sure as I know they tinkered with Birch and Cherry but have never seen any WWII markings on any. Rick B

jlg is post war,yes?
correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't jlg a 1950-1953 cartouche? if i am correct, that would make something other than walnut correct as well?

I am not into post WW2 rifles but seem to remember that there were two types of JLG cartouches, one being handstamped

Meant to say did not see any Birch in any War production stock. Had a brain fart. But again it could be a sapwood stock so seeing the stamping is key. Rick B

That is 100% fake and the cannons are really goofy looking like the Ebay ones. Here is one to look at and compare. Also looks like Birch like you thought. Rick B

ok, so a fake stamp. no harm, no foul, as i didn't think it was the real deal anyway. it is a really nice shooter stock, though. it locks up nice and tight with no fore/aft play.
btw, in the 4.2m-4.3m sa m1, would birch be appropriate?
i could never really find the answer.

As I stated Birch was not used during any war time production nor on any JLG's although some say HRA's in the late serial range were found with them coming back from Greece at the CMP
. Personally I think they were either end of the runs or the Greeks swapped them out. Our people here may have swapped them out for the Walnut stocks before prepping them and sending them over also. I feel these HRA's reported in one crate were just not production or we would see more. Also the Korean war was over by the time HRA finished up. Rick B
