Thank you for the information Gents.
I know these are not exactly the best optic in the market but I put one on An AR15 and find it quite use full .
How would i strip the existing paint without damaging the what looks to be rubber gasket held by hex head fasteners ? solvent, bead blaster, wire wool? scotchbrite?
Bigduke6. Presumably you need to cut this thing to fit and the put some silicon in to hold/waterproof it? ( FYI. the county sheriff helicopter has a callsign bigduke6 - it flies out of john wayne airport !)

There is some good info on the trilux suit scopes at falfiles/optics. I have a trilux on my L1A1 BTW. I used one of b@rt's Tritium vials to re-animate mine and it worked great. I used a red colored one which is dim enough it can't be seen in the day light, but in darkness lights up just enough that you can see the tip of the pointer. IMO you don't want it too bright as it effects your night time vision.

+1 on B@rt for the vials.

The green vials are brightest and last the longest, although, not the 'correct' color.

Here is a comparison of the original on the left with a 're-animated' one on the right. Two green vials embedded in epoxy. Make sure that you place them to one side so that you can adjust the brightness or turn it 'off' completely.

    Hi all,

I have a couple of SUSAT scopes, both UKicon former SLR scopes, a Mk1 and Mk2 with L1 dust cover mounts and both with the later springs fitted. I wonder if it would be possible to have a batch of springs made by an engineer for a reasonable price, the demand is certainly there to support it.

As for re-animating the viles, I will leave mine alone, from a purely target shooting perspective they just aren't required, I suppose I can see why you would need this if you hunted though.

    Cheers, John.

Just found this, you tube video of the early, 1955 UK fal trials, fascinating stuff guys, I see the EM-1 and EM-2 Rifles optical sight was considered, but obviously dropped early on.

    Cheers, John.

I wouldn't embed the new tritium phails in epoxy in case you need to dig them out and replace them in 10 years time or so. I'd stick to the old plaster of paris. At least you can just soak in water and remove whenever. This is what we used to do with the spirit level bubbles in out Vickers and GPMG sights.

But on to better things. I took a new and unused serpentine spring to a specialised spring making co. near Slough and asked for a quote for, say, 100. £8 each That seems great value to me - if I needed one, but I don't! But even to get a minimum order of 100 that'd be economic to set up the what they call 'the weaving machine' to do the intricate curves, it'd cost £800. So it's a non starter as far as I'm concerned. If I wanted a thousand, then they'd be peanuts but who wants to be left with 900 and be out of pocked for£1000 as well?

Can you clarify this a bit? Is it $8 per spring (in qty 100) PLUS $800 set up fee? Sorry don't know how to make the right pound sign. If that's correct, 16# = $25.60 per Google's conversion rate. I'd buy two at that price. And I really think there is a market for up to 1,000 of them. Lots of us would buy 1 or 2 to keep as spares. Even adding a couple bucks to help cover the hassles, I think there is a business case here.

If you could clarify the pricing, maybe we could form a group buy and sell off the excess to cover the rest. Id' be willing to front some seed money for that if the numbers look good.

    SUIT coil spring

If any one needs the small coil spring for the Israeli Trilux I have had a few made up and the one I have tested seems to work well.

If any one needs one send me your shipping details via PM and I will send you one.
No charge from me but a donation to Milsurps would be nice!

    Cheers

    Johnno
