    Norwiegan Krag? need info

hey so i bought this a while ago and am now looking to sell/trade it and I'm trying to get a price and some more info on it.It's been sporterized and converted to .308 by globe firearms ltd. in ottawa but im trying to figure to what degree.I read somewhere that if the stocks been cut it reduces value aswell with the barrel, the barrel on this one is 22 inches and stock is 30.5 inches.

Any info will be greatly appreciated

Its. A Norwegianicon Kragicon converted to .308 Winchester By Globco in the 1960's, like you said.

I've read that the Krag Actions weren't made to handle High pressure cartridges like the .308 winchester.

They were made with one forward locking lug and a chamber pressure of 40, 000 psi
the .308 Win is 62, 000 psi I'm not sure. But you can see that the krag wasn't exactly designed for the .308 Winchester.

    Have you shot it much?

I've seen a couple in the $150-$250 range, I bought a nice Globco No4 Sporter for $150 my favorite bush carbine.

I'd ask around on Gun Nutz, Some of the guys there remember the The Company and have more info on the Rifles they cobbled together.

Norwegianicon Krags and US Krags are horses of a different color. The Norwegian used a second locking lug and is rated for higher pressures than the US Kragicon. A google will give you the specifics or DeHass's book or Brophy's should explain it. As to being strong enough for 308, not sure I would use iot, but they were standard in 6.5 Swede.

My, My, that rifle looks very familiar and has an Austrian made high quality steel barrel, a bolt with two locking lugs and handles any factory load .308 Win cartridge.
"Contrary to some rumors, the Kragicon-Jørgensen action can be modified to fire modern, high power cartridges. During World War II, and also in the early 1950s, several were produced in 7.92 x 57 mm, which can hardly be considered a low power cartridge. A number of Krag-Jørgensens have also been converted to .30-06 and 7.62 mm NATO for target shooting and hunting. However, it must be stressed that these were all late-production Norwegian Krag-Jørgensen rifles, made in an era when metallurgy was vastly more advanced than when the American Krag-Jørgensen rifles were made. The American Krag-Jørgensen also has only a single locking lug, whereas the Norwegian and Danish versions effectively had two lugs." Krag-Jørgensen - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The CIP MAP for the 6.5 × 55 is 380 MPa (55000 PSI). SAAMI MAP for this cartridge is 46,000 CUP or 51000 PSI.[2] All Swedishicon Mauser actions were proof-tested with a single 6.5 × 55mm proof load developing approximately 55,000 CUP (66,000 psi).[3]
-- P.O. Ackley. In his words "It gave no trouble even with powders as hot as #4198 in quantities sufficent to require compression to get in the case. Such loads blew the primers but did not hurt the action." He ended up with a case full of 2400 before the action ruptured and even then it wouldn't have done serious injury to the shooter. He tested four actions, two standard and two that had been re-heat treated. All similar results.

The rifle is NOT a conversion of an original Norwegianicon Kragicon with a cut-down barrel.

It is a modern sporter, made by fitting a new Austrian barrel in 308 WIN to a Krag action. Proofed in Vienna in 1959, i.e. in accordance with the 1958 proof law that requires centrefire rifles to be proofed with a load that develops a pressure 1000 bar (14223 psi) above the strongest commercial cartridge available at the time. If you want to load hotter than that, it's your funeral!

    Talking Krag 308 Win

This rifle was reborn as a .308 in 1988 and it will indeed handle all factory .308 ammunition. I am currently refinishing the stock down to wood to prepare it for a nice flat finish. It will get used this fall...........karl
