    Model 1892 Krag...

Today I stopped at a hockshop that I hadn't been to in a while just to see what firearms or militaria they might have. Their inventory looked about the same as the last time I was there with the exception of a Kragicon rifle that stood in a floor rack. What drew my attention to it was its cleaning rod. I had never seen a Krag with one before but remembered reading about them being a feature on early rifles. Picking it up I saw the 1894 dates on the receiver and stock. A quick check of the bore showed it to be in good shape. I believe the sight is the 1902 pattern. I've never owned a Krag before and I'm not familiar with the different upgrades these beasts were subjected to. Aside from the sight has anything else been altered? Here are some pics.

I'm not a Kragicon specialist, but I think you did very well! "Outstanding" would be more like it. I don't have my Krag book here, so hopefully one of our more knowledgable members will "pick it apart" shortly. But I'm thinking it's going to be good news.

1902 sight, modified front sight, though it retains the early rivet head pin. 1902 Handguard. Otherwise it appears original, though I can't vouch for the cleaning rod. Uncut guide rib, square back cocking piece, pinned safety, screw through the extractor rather than a rivet. Original 92 side plate, and square toe buttstock. Quite a find. No twinge of guilt once you got out the door?

No not a bit of guilt. The pawn man should have been up on his game. I just took advantage of his ignorance.
