    My move to Kalifornia- Update

After living for the first 7 months after the move to Grass Valley (northern Sierra) in a cramped studio apartment (with everything we own in storage), we bought a short sale house. We finally finished pre-move in projects (paint, floors, doors, etc.) and moved our stuff (including all of my firearms related stuff) from storage this last week. My 600 pound gun safe is nestled in it's place in the "Man Cave" and my reloading stuff is almost set up. (I took the opportunity to fondle the Inland M-1 Carbine). I Still have some work ahead building shelves, etc., but just about everything is accessible.

With all of Kalifornia's faults, it is good to be back home in the Grass Valley/Tahoe area. Besides, my oldest daughter who lives 40 minutes away is giving us another grandson within the next day or two.

Good for you can't be much worse than here in old Illinois!
I've got some good friends that have a house in Truckee and get out there every couple years to ski. Some of the most beautiful country around. I like watching the trains snake through Donner Pass. Hope thing continue to go well.
If you need a pic of Brighton I've been passing through

What are the legalities of moving to the PRK with a bunch of carbines, AR's and Garands? My kids both live out in LA, and some day I might need to move closer, but I don't want to give up the collection. Right now I'm doing fine in the other LA (Lower Alabama) where nobody cares much about 10-round magazines and all that crap. Do you have to leave your mags behind?

There are restrictions. We deal with them. I also have pre ban pistols with 16 round mags, legal because I bought them before the ban went into effect.

We play the game by the rules, as silly as they are. I understand that people won't sell to this state just because they say it is a hassle. But we are allowed to bring/buy most of those items. I am going to sell about 20 carbines by the end of the year, think I'll only sell with in my state. Hand to hand deals.

    Jim

I lived in California until June 2007, and owned numerous high capacity mags for ARs. AKs, M1icon carbines, assorted 9mm pistols, etc. before to 2000 ban, going back to the 1970s. Even though I took them out of state in 2007, I could legally bring them back into the state when I moved back in Dec. 2011, because I had them IN THE state before 2000. I do not know if legally possessing them before 2000 out of state allows you to bring them back in.

Is that restaurant called Salias still in Nevada City?

Neat country up there, just cold winters. I used to hunt up by Quincy but always in Modoc. The East side of the Warners is spectacular. I 've spent my whole life here and being able to be in 300ft tall redwoods in 30 minutes or at the ocean in 45 is unique. My dream deal is to get a nice place out at Sea Ranch. People don't realize that Kalif is almost 2/3 pristine wilderness. LA is a giant third world dump, it used to be the tip of the arrow, the best place to live until about 1948 then the orange orchards became sub divisions and then the houses became ghettos. It is amazing what importing poverty can do to a city.

RM, Glad you are getting settled. Smart move with the magazines. I don't understand the reason why they have the limit - 2 - ten round mags holds more than 1- 15 round mag. You only have the go through the motions of reloading.

BIG Congrats on the incoming stork!!!!!!!!!!!!.

Jim, you getting out of the collecting business altogether or just liquidating some of the extras? More that a few people here would like a shot at some of what you got.

    TR,

No, not getting out, my cousin is getting in. Traded him 10 nice carbines, one of each maker except IP, for 20 rebuilt carbines. My comment was because I get annoyed that people look down on folks from California. And would rather not deal with us. It just gets old after a while.

    Jim, I agree

We have a liberal problem here and the things that brings, that is all. Beyond that it is one of the most beautiful places to live in the world. I took a trip up through Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Utah, pretty much all over that country, the places everyone says to move to. There were places in Idaho where you couldn't buy a can of tuna. Log cabin factories and Indian casinos, whoopie. Ketcham was nice, but I'm not rich. Some beautiful country, but there is just as much of it in Kalif if a person cares to drive a bit, and you don't need 13 cord of wood a year to live there. It is very fashionable to dismiss selling here, their loss.

Another thing; I saw wildfires going full blast near Hamilton and Salmon and they don't even attempt to stop them, Yellowstone looked like Dresden...what's up with that?

Why don't ya'll all pack up and come to Texas? We got a little bit of everything here... Guns, big cities, guns, beaches, guns, desert areas, guns, hill country, guns, rivers, guns, camping, guns, snow in the north, guns, warm winters in the south, guns... oh, and did I mention you can have all kind of guns here????

Jim, stop getting your poor, helpless cousin addicted to carbines!!!! You trying to turn in to a gun dealer or something????

Dave, I haven't done much traveling up in that area, but I have been all over the rest of this country (and alot of over seas countries for that matter). I just HATE cold weather and think I am too far from the Gulf of Mexico as it is. Forget the can of Tuna - eat FRESH seafood!! Go visit down south some.

RM, just remember that you got to stop fondling the carbine to be able to hold the BABY!!!!!!
