    Gew98 Spandau 1915...

I stopped by a local gun shop last week where I spied a crusty old Gew98. It was brown all over but all visible serial numbers appeared to be matching and a bore light revealed a nice bright barrel with strong rifling. After some price haggling it came home with me. I spent the weekend cleaning her up and here are the results.

Sure looks like a WWI vet bringback. Nice find for sure.

    A very nice Gew.98 indeed.
Has the stock been varnished or lacquered?

But before doing anything with the woodwork - please look up my old posting on a "treacle rifle" - you might find it useful

The Dealers Warehouse has a pile of SMLE (Brit) parts. Wood as well. Give Rav a call.

Len, was that rust on the receiver ? And if you don't mind, could you give us a ball park figure as to what you paid for it ?, and what state you were in when picked it up . I mean geography.

Yes Tom, that was rust on the receiver. Asking price was $400 haggled down to $275 out the door. The rifle was acquired in South Florida near Ft. Lauderdale.
