From what I can see that's one of the nicest IP's I have ever seen. No way would I separate the receiver and the stock. To me, the more we learn the less we seem to know for sure about what is original on these early carbines. Thanks for the pics.
Lastly for now, back to the recoil plate, impressions in the stock, etc. I do think I see the IP-W impression in the stock, it is very faint but I think it's there. I'll post these pictures now along with a sketch I made of the image to look for (mirror image). You guys can be the judge, though, you have more experience than I for sure! And again, I'm not claiming the stock IS original to the carbine, I really do not know, but, rather I post this for learning purposes!
Rokwell, I looked at your pictures of the stock and the recoil plate but I do not see the IP-W on the stock where it should be located. I even magnifieded the picture but it's not there. I think your thoughts about the stock not being original to the carbine is correct.
I've got (2) of the IP-W recoil plates and I don't remember either one of them being stamped deep enough to leave a good impression in the wood, especially if the screw wasn't real tight. One is on an original S'G' carbine and the other on a mix-master S'G' rebuild. I'll have to look at the original one to see if there's anything showing in the wood. - Bob

Charlie, you are the expert on slingwell markings ? For I.P I think this is quite early but I stand to be corrected. Hope Chris A is watching ? Mike.
Mike, That is the early Irwin Roberts company stamp on an IP stock. They were also marked IP-IR as well as the IR-IP. Both are correct.
Bob, I can only speak for my own stock being an IP stock and the IP-W is inbedded in the stock from the recoil plate. I just don't see it in Rokwells stock.
Beautiful carbine, I just wish I knew a bit more about these grail guns. Other than that fact that is...looks good to me, and I could never afford a good one.
Thanks all for the comments. As soon as I get a chance I'll take down the bolt and put up pictures of it, firing pin both sides, etc. And here's another picture of the stock recess where I think I see the imprint of the IP-W mark from the plate. I've cut out the area and pasted it above the original picture with some red annotations. See if this helps you see what I'm thinking?
Keep in mind, in 'real life' these impressions are very light and hard to see anyway! ( could be, any impressions, they might be produced even if someone 'swapped' parts, tightened the screw down, and left it there for years?)...don't know.
Also when I take down the carbine, I'm going to see if I can match up the recoil plate with the back of the receiver to check wear patterns.
I'll leave the carbine alone, but even if I wanted to replace the stock with another, again I think it would take a lifetime to find another anyway....
I was wrong about the recoil plates on my S'G' carbines. They are marked W-S'G' instead of IP-W. I took a look at the wood on the one believed original. I can't see anything there, except a circular pattern that's concentric with the screw hole. - Bob
