I think they see the leaf as humped but the base real. But I might be wrong about that...

There's some fracturing of the metal around the pin hole on the "S" side of the base. That could indicate that the leaf has been removed - or it could just be that way because the circular crimp is off center. The crimp on mine is a bit offset on that same side. I see some stake marks on the base too, but that's consistent with the way my S'G' was staked. I don't know if IP staking was done the same way. The buyer still has 10 days to get his money back if he isn't happy with it. - Bob

Is it the spring? - maybe upside down?

I didn't really even look at the leaf. I do see the questions now.
Even if it were all real, it's too much for what people see as an S'G' sight.

It's ridiculous. You can buy a whole rifle of some sort for that kind of money. It's irritating that people will buy this and then fuel the market. Ugh. You would think Audie Murphy himself had this one on one of his weapons.

The seller didn't run the price up. The bidders (us) did.

That was kind of my point. People are paying that for it. It makes it real hard for any normal ole person to get his hands on one. Then when we say we might be interested in using a repro part, well, darned if you do, darned if you don't. I admit, putting a repro part on a USGI weapon is probably, well, just not ideal. But dang. I guess I need a new hobby. It always has been too expensive for my wallet. My Dad bought most of my guns and I became a fortunate recipient. But if it was my money, I'd probably have an SKS and my sidearm would be a 9mm used Smith or something like that. Anyways..... enough of my rant. At least I'm blessed with some nice WWII weapons. Even if I can't afford parts for them.

If you buy a USGI carbine that has mixed parts, why not just enjoy it in the form in which it last saw service? These prices come about when you set out to 'correct' a carbine to artificially raise it's value. So, obviously, anyone holding parts for rare carbines is going to exact a premium for them.
