    Question Krag 30-40 help

Hello Everyone. I am RICKGEE and this is my first post. This site has got my attention, and looks like it is going to be fun.
Recently a very good friend of mine passed away. Surprisingly he left me a Kragicon 30-40, Springfield Armory Model 1898 (S/N 249481). Beautiful Rifle. I know for a fact this Rifle has been stored in a Safe since 1961. I do not believe it has been fired since that time frame. My friend inherited this Krag from his Father in 1961. The Rifle has been very well kept.

I would like to know when the Rifle was made. Was it a long Rifle or Carbine (presently it's a Carbine). Was it issued for action? Some were issued during WWI. A number were issued to the National Guard during WWI. And, when was this Rifle released to the public?
It would be nice to obtain all the info I can for future generations. Anyone out there know how to seek above info I desire? RickGee

    30-40 Krag Pictures. RICKGEE

Here are pictures of my Kragicon. Note the Rifle has also been re-blued. This blueing effort had to take place prior to 1961. One picture i am trying to reflect a "Stamp" that was lightly sanded over?

Hello RickGee, welcome to the forum. Your friend left you a nicely refinished cut down rifle. Nothing at all wrong with them, my favorite shooter is a cut down model 1892 rifle. They're fine for anything from making little rocks out of big rocks, to taking elk size game. 249481 would have been made around Feb of 1900. The Kragicon rifles were first sold surplus in the 1920's I believe. Because they were so cheap, a lot of them got modified into fine plinking/hunting carbines.

To learn more about about how to handle pics, please read this thread in the Q&A - Help Forums, which also appears as a "sticky" thread at the top of every forum on the site.

How do I upload pictures to my posts for storage on milsurps.com? (click here)

In the case of pics stored in our member's Photo Gallery, all you have to do is click on the pic in the album and you'll see an area at the bottom where the cu-n-paste code is created for you, so you can simply use it within any post.

If you still have problems, email them to me at badger@milsurps.com and I'll resize them for you, then post them in the thread under your name

    Regards,
    Doug
