Remington made 03's, about 348,000 of them, till the M1903A3 was approved 21 May 1942.

Although the M1903A3 was adopted in May, 1942, it was several months until the bugs were worked out. Relatively large-scale Remington M1903A3 production didn't happen until December; the last Remington M1903 was made in March, 1943.

My dad has a Springfield 1903 with reciever dated 44 and barrel date 45. Barrel is 4 groove rifling. Ima try to get pics of it soon for yall...

My 03A4, s/n 4998457, is one of the final ones out of the barn in spring 1944. It has a RA 1-44 barrel measuring 302 on the GI throat erosion gauge and 30075 at the muzzle, which I believe to be an original installation. It also has a scant style stock, which again appears to be the original. It is an accurate shooter.

I believe that Sedgley may have produced the lastest dated replacement barrels. I have a 1922 vintage M1903 which is fitted with a 1-45 dated Sedgley showing 303 on the GI throat gauge and 3015 at the muzzle. It is a good shooter.

Receiver DATED 1944? M1903s did not have receiver dates. The highest SPRINGFIELD 1903 dates to s/n 1,536,000 range and dates to 1939. I have seen a few 2-45 Sedgely (circle S) barrels.

Its been a few years since ive seen it. I will get pics for yall. But I do clearly remember the barrel stamped 45 near the muzzle with some other stuff. As I said its been a while so im trying to go by what I remember!

I was just assuming production went into 44. And I guess I was correct. Although I didn't realize it ended so early. That's all I meant by it. I didn't know for sure which is why I used the word "guess". I wiki'd it after I said it and that wasn't definitive when they stopped production. I figured others would state the facts though. I guess I should've not said anything. Ooops. Sorry.

Your rifle was original built as a M1903A4 sniper rifle. The serial number is one of the last ones.

I happen to have s/n 1535436 it sports a '44 SA barrel, my notes at work don't show the month. It is a Bubba gun with the stock whittled on, rear sight & sleeve removed, Peep added and a rubber pad screwed over the origional butt plate using only the top screw.
