Historic 1917 film footage

Enfield fans may enjoy some of the short film clips that can be viewed at Stock Footage Archival Video Clips and Historic Photo Images from CriticalPast. Enter "1917 Enfield rifle" in the search box. Of special interest to me is the clip of rifles being assembled and test fired. An employee can be seen firing a rifle and adjusting the front sight for proper zero. He seems to be using some type of a bore sighting devise with the rifle secured in a machine vise. Does anyone have an explanation for what this devise might have been?

The cosmoline dip tank just gave me the willies knowing how hard that stuff is to remove. Immersion heaters were used when I was in the army but left a lot to be desired. (gasoline worked better) We took our M-14s in the showers with us and washed both our rifles and our guns.

There was a video of the test firing (5 shots) and the receivers were covered by a large metal box. Could have been proof loads?



There are a lot of good videos there. The safety practices used in the manufacturing processes were minimal at best. There were no flywheel or belt guards. Everybody looks like they were working at double speed.
