    New Remington rand 1911a1

Yesterday my dad has become the proud owner of a wonderful 1911a1 Remington 1495xxx. The gun is in excellent conditions, it was in a collection and it's not rearsenalized. What I find weird is that the barrel is marked colt.45auto.
    Is there a chance that it's original?Attachment 37807
Here it is. The only pic I have right now taken from the weapons shop site.

Thanks and have a nice day

Remington Rand did use some Colt supplied barrels in late 1942 and early 1943 while High Standard was getting up to speed in 1911A1 barrel production, but the Remington Rand shown is from
April/May 1944. The barrel has been changed at some time in it's past.

    I saw sites indicating it's 1943
This one for example Colt 1911 .45 ACP Production Statistics and Serial Numbers at the number 31.

    From the site you noted:

    Beginning of M1911:
    1) Colt: S/N 1 to 3190 = April 16, 1912 to May 31, 1912

Colt serial numbers 1 thru 50 were produced December 28, 1911, and shipped January 4, 1912. I wouldn't put a lot of faith in that site when they made a mistake on the very first entry.

Clawson indicates Remington Rands 1471431 thru 1609528 were produced in 1944. Meadows agrees. If you don't have Clawson's Collector's Guide, 3rd Edition, I would highly recommend it.

In his pocket chronology,Larry Hacker also lists Remington Rand numbers 1471431 to 1609528 as being dated as 1943. I have used this for many years and this would be the first time time that something wrong may be listed in it. Does anyone know of any other info that may also be wrong in it?

  9. Thank You to Bruce McAskill For This Useful Post:

If you want to look at other errors in Larry Hacker's book look at 1943 where he lists serial numbers 958101 thru 1088725 (130,625 pistols) as US&S serial numbers. The actual serial number range for US&S is 1041405 thru 1096404 (55,000 pistols, the actual number).

Also look at Common U.S. Inspectors Marks found on M1911A1 Pistols, where he lists FJA as being found on US&S pistols. This error was apparently generated by the first error in the US&S serial numbers. Serial numbers 958101 thru 1041404 are actually Remington Rand, but since it had already been concluded that these numbers were US&S, it was only logical that since FJA was found on this serial number range, FJA inspected US&S pistols.

Bad information has a way of perpetuating itself. I have known Larry Hacker for a long time, and when I questioned Larry about this, he said he used the information he could find at the time. He just found the wrong information.

Hey Matteo,: if you were in the US I would trade you my HS barrel on My soon to be received 1943 colt 1911A1 for your Colt barrel and our guns would be more correct?
