    Model 1898 Gallery Practice Rifle

The Model 1898 Gallery Rifle was born in 1903. Serial range started for the most part above 475000. So I would think 1903 to be the correct marking, not to say anything dated before would not work. Since the '03 Springfield was coming in existence and this was the end of manufacturing for the Kragicon, so any left over stocks could have been used. John

Not the Stevens Pope, but those later made by the ordnance dept had JSA 1905 or 1906. according to Poyer. And, no proof mark. Says some were put into replacement stocks which may or may not have a cartouche & proofmark. Sold through the DCM in 1912 for $7.50 ea.

But in Poyer's tables on cartouches, he lists JFC, no year, as cartouche for Gallery Practice 22 caliber rifle. CV and CCV is only listed as for school guns, modifed 99 carbines.

Here's a link to a post I did of my Kragicon practice rifle. One of the photos shows the cartouche. I'm not home at the moment, but when I get back I could take a better photo if you wish.

How many of the 22 gallary practice rifles do you think are still around? I know where there is one for sale, but it is not cheap. Steve
