My Ishapore 2a1 hits way too high ( to hit at 100 yards I had to aim at the 50)

Hello everyone. I am Chris from Pennsylvania, USA and im somewhat new to collecting military surpllus rifles. I have a 91/30 Mosin Nagant and a Lee Enfield Ishapore 7.62. Im looking forward to learning alot more and hopefully building my collection

My Ishy hits way too high , do you have a solution as a fellow 2a-2a1 owner?

This is a common problem, and is most often due to the fact that ammunition we are using does not match the ballistics of the ammo the Indians used to set the sights in the first place.

To correct it, you will need a taller foresight blade. These come in a range of heights in increments of .015".

Shoot the rifle at 100 yds, with the sights set at 100. Measure how much higher the point of impact is compared with the point of aim.

For each step change in foresight blade height, you will get a 2.77" change in point of impact at 100yds.

So, if the rifle is shooting 6" high at 100yds, you need to go up 2 sizes in foresight blade height compared to one you already have

Ok, first up, I don't own a 2A1.
But... this problem raises it's head for No1 mkIII rifles all the time. People set their sights at what they think is 100yds and bang away at a target finding they are either 4+" high or low at 100yds.
The sights on a No1 rifle start at 200yds. If the slider is right back top where it stops against the cap, the bottom of it has slipped off the end of the ramp and has either dropped a heap or started climbing onto the handguard and rose a heap... Set the sights at 200, with MkVII Ball it will be 1 1/2 inches high at 100yds.

Reading the OP,s post, I couldn't help but wonder, so did an image search and found this pic below that (allegedly) shows a 2A1 rear sight, the graduations also start at 200, and look.. the bottom of the slider is off the back of the ramp. Have a look at yours. It might be the same

If the pic below or the info regarding the 2A1 here is wrong, please feel free to correct me.... they are not my cup of tea

I recently had to deal with an Enfield sight that was shooting way too high. Two feet over the target at 50yds. Searching for remedies, there was one recommendation of using the Sten gun front sight blade which is about as high as they come. Some Sten guns used the Enfield No.4 front sight base and blade. The cost was unfairly high for such a part, so I soldered a brass piece over the original sight blade and filed it to the height and shape I needed.
