Butt disc stamp question.
Hi all. I have just bought a 1915 dated SMLE complete with magazine cut off, volley sight (minus peep sight) and a 1915 dated bayonet. The butt disc is stamped 'B.U.G. 1951'. Can anyone tell me what the letters stand for, is it a re-issue disc and where can I get a replacement peep sight without paying over the odds? Thanks for any help.

The picture is somewhat indistinct, are you sure it is B.U.G and not B.U.C?
Also, I see no "19" in front of the "51" So I suspect it is simply a rifle rack number -"51"

? University College. But in any case, those initials don't feature in the official Britiuth Army Order of Battle list. Mind you, if it is 1951, then butt marking was abandoned officvially during the last war and was pretty-well abandoned well before that.....

Could be some cadet group. EFD Rifles sell new production SMLE rear peep sights for £35, not over the odds, they are the odds!

It IS 'BUC'. Here is a better shot. I had visions of it being 'RUC' and opening up a whole new can of worms!
