    Citadel M1-22 Carbine

I have seen a number of old threads about the Chiappa/Citadel .22LR M1icon Carbine, and thought that rather than re-hash old discussions, I'd simply start a new one.
I did it. I bought one. Given the price of .30 ammo, I was looking for a plinker, and was in the market.
I had the cash, Cabela's had a few, and the price could not be beat to begin with. Then, at the checkout, some unpublished sale kicked in and it was even cheaper. NIB, 2 magazines, well under $250.
I have not fired it yet, but the overall workmanship is very very good. I have no problem with the plastic/polymer parts (my Glocks have a few). The only thing that bugs me initially is that I cannot fit a sling and oiler into the stock slot together. I'll figure something out.
When viewed side-by-side with my 1943 Underwoods, they are virtually indistinguishable from each other.
I look forward to firing it and giving some info as soon as possible............

I too have been thinking about buying one for fun but the lack of .22 keeps me from "pulling the trigger"... Great rifle to spark a kids interest in shooting and Milsurps at the same time is another plus for me.

Let us know about those sights if you don't mind.

    Well, that was FUN!!

I took it to the range today and ran 100 rounds of CCI Mini-Mags through it. That was $8 of fun, versus the price of 100 rounds of .30 carbine..........
(The .22 ammo crisis seems to have stabilized here, so there is usually some on the shelves now.)
The first 10 rounds simply went into the berm at the range just to loosen things up a bit and make sure the rifle works, then the rest were used to sight in and group. After adjusting for windage and elevation, my last group of 20 rounds (2 magazines) resulted in one hole, about 1-1/2" diameter exactly at the point of aim at 50 yards.
Overall, I am pretty impressed. There were about 10 failures to feed in that 100 rounds, but that seems to be a pretty typical ratio for .22 semi-autos, based on a couple of pistols I have shot.
While maybe not as fun to shoot as my old Underwoods, I think that this is a great way to teach and practice with an M1icon Carbine--it really is just like the "real" one, but in .22 LR.

More updates to come, and some pix.

I hope the ftf get better with age. I have a Walmart $200.00 Ruger 10-22 and I have never had a problem with it using CCI. Some times a Remington cartridge will snap but that is not the fault of the Rifle. I decided that I wanted a .30 Carbine for my son. Deans Gun Restorations had a restored Inland on the Net. I bought it and when I picked it up at the FFL the slide would not latch open because the slide handle would pick up so far from the receiver the pin would not reach the slot. I contacted DGR and dean said it needed a longer hold open pin in the slide. Do y'all think that would have been a proper fix? I was told by a local sith that it was receiver wear and could not be repaired. What it was I dont know but i chose to return it for a refund, one reason being that it should not have came to me from a restoration in that condition. Any way they held $300.00 of my money as a restocking fee. Is that something anyone would have done ? Is buying restored firearms a buyer beware thing or what ?

The slide hold is a slot with a ramp cut into the receiver rail. The pin that holds it open can be worn. I'd try turning the slide stop pin 180 degrees to the unworn side (you can just turn it with a pair of smooth pliers or take it out and turn it) and see if it works. If so it is a cheap and easy to replace part. If the slide has worn tabs or the receiver is worn badly, the slide would dismount.

Regarding the 22 FTF; a lot of automatics are finicky about bullet shape. My 10-22 will not feed Stingers for some reason. Try Rem golden bullets or Winchester, they are usually good.

Did you break it all the way down and clean before going to the range? If not, I would and I bet those FTF's will disappear. For some reason " I think because who knows how long it will sit on the fun store rack" new guns come with a sticky coating of grease inside.

Sounds like the sights are good to go.

Yes--that's part of the fun, prepping for the first range trip.
I should have clarified that the "failures to feed" were really "failures to completely feed a new round," and were corrected by simply racking the slide.

The failures were invariably within the first 2 or 3 rounds of a magazine, when there would have been the most upward pressure from the magazine spring. The magazines were VERY hard to load the last 2 rounds into, so that seems to make sense. Heck, it was good practice for malfunction drills!!!!

I think this is going to be a great teaching/learning tool at a very accessible price--good for new shooters or kids to enjoy before moving up to the real thing. All the controls and operations (and stripping) are "just like" the originals.
I'll try to post some pix in the near future with this and one of my Underwoods for comparison. The consistent accuracy was quite a treat, too. Now, just need to do it again and again......

    It's all good!!!

Now, I guess I really do need to track down one of the Crossman M1icon Carbine BB guns.......................
