    serial numbers

Why is it, or is it, important to blank out sn. when a picture of a rifle is shown?

Some folks do not like the idea of a specfic identifiable firearm being tracable to them. This is a Cdn. site. Any Cdn. owned firearm will be registered, and tracable by serial number to the owner. There are those who believe that the integrity of the Registration System has been, or could be compromised. Tinfoil hat time? I don't know. Doesn't do any harm to blank the number in a photo, there is a remote possibility that doing so could be a good idea.

Thank you for the reply. I had not really thought of that. The way things are going here in the states we will probably have to worry about that in the not so distance future.

Personally, I've never been concerned with hiding the serial. If someone has the ability to cross-reference serial numbers, they're already deep inside the registry and have all the info at their fingertips.

    YMMV.

I figure if I have someone elses gun, if they can prove it they can have it. Its the right thing to do. Now if big brother would like to have it there may be a bit of a spat-SDH

    Exclamation

Personaly I just consider it a bit of unnecessary paranoioa.
I could care less who knows what serial nr is on what firearm that I own.
Oh well, there are a lot out there that don't want the guvment to know anything about them. Which is fine as I'm sure they don't have a drivers lisc, own property or pay income tax so the guvment doesn't know they exist.

if i own the gun, ill share the number, if i dont own the gun, i dont, out of respect for the owner.
i share info, and how to with pictures, and work on customers guns from time to time.
    so that is an issue.
also , if the gun is a high dollar rare item., i ask first, before i share.
