    03A3 smith corona value?

I'm looking at purchasing a smith corona 03A3 but I don't know what a fair price would be for it. I would say it has about 98% finish left and it has a sight hood. The serial number puts it at January 1943. The only problem with it is that the stock was sanded at some point but most cartouches are visible. F.J.A can just barely be made out on the side. What do you guys think?
    Thanks

It depends if the rifle has all Smith-Corona parts or is a mixmaster. If all S/C parts, the price would be significantly higher than a mixmaster. Some quick things to look for:

    1) Stock - look forward of the trigger guard - there should be some numbers in geometic figures. If one of the figures is a diamond, the stock is a S/C

    2) Bolt - if there is NOT an R on the underside and there are no other markings, or an "X" (usually poorly formed) the bolt is a S/C; all the bolt parts should NOT be marked with Rs

    3) Trigger guard - look at the forward tang screw. There should be a ridge of raised metal around it that looks like a "smile". If the ridge is squared off, the TG is a Remington

    4) Look for any other parts that are marked with an R - again, those are replacements.

Good luck and keep us informed what happens.

It has an R on the bolt and firing pin and it has a remington stock and an R on the magazine cut off switch but everything else seems to be SC. It has a very bright bore but it has clearly been fired quite a bit.

    Probably in the $600-800 range.
