A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. I will accept PayPal, Zelle, MO and good old checks (and cash if you want to stop by for a tour!). CLICK BANNER to send me a PM for International pricing and shipping. Manufacturer of various vintage rifle scopes for the 1903 such as our M73G4 (reproduction of the Weaver 330C) and Malcolm 8X Gen II (Unertl reproduction). I always wanted a 30-06 FN49 but never thought I'd ever stumble upon one, let alone at a price I would be willing to pay. Price is relative, though, as these have really appreciated over the years. I lucked out, found this one and was able to add it to the collection.

I'm really OCD when it comes to learning everything about a new rifle I don't have any prior experience with. It's half the fun. The FN49 didn't disappoint, learning about these rifles was a real treat. From Dieudonne Saive fleeing Belgiumicon prior to the Germanicon invasion and bringing the plans to Englandicon, to the mechanicals of the rifle and the different contracts and calibers, it is all very interesting. They are also beautiful rifles. I'd get another one if lighting strikes twice.

    If I may contribute .....

The four (at a minimum) to own ...

... all share a common particularity. It doesn't mean that their respective designers got in contact and shared ideas ...

(SVT40, MAS 49/56, SAFN ABL, FAL Aus.)

When I first started accumulating, I started with FN49s. I imported one from Canadaicon because it was a surplus Belgian military rilfe, difficult to find in the US. I envy the guys with sniper FN49s.
