I have some pictures of the M85 with a sniper cheek piece, I will dig it out and send it over to you

From memory it doesn't look like a very attractive piece but I am sure that it would do the job

    Regards

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Hi Glen,

Sadly not in the pile of literature and files I have, but it is mentioned a couple of times in the "manufacturing booking in and out bibles" of which there are two. It refers to rounds and barrels.

It refers to several stainless steel barrels fitted to M85's for trials as requested by ITDU Warminster as well as a 300 WIN as a consideration. All were returned to PH and there are no further comments as to why they were built and Bill can't remember why either. Special projects for special tasks, Peter L may have an idea!

Did you fit the cheek rest yourself, just interested at the moment as I was given a few butt cheek retainers for the M85 which are rarer now then hens teeth?

Nice pratical job there, with all the vertical and lateral movement built in that is needed in the ooloo.

The PH version was purely a lump of shaped wood, with an alloy plate inserted in amongst the butt adjustment pads with a hole on the top where the bolt went through to the block of wood, and Eddy Taff the senior Engineer at Parker Hale, simply put another bolt straight down from above into the top of the plastic Mc Millan butt.

Probably a reason why none were ever sold with the rifle...............sad but true! Can't find any drawings of the fit anywhere which for hitories sake would be good.
