    Schmidt Rubin 1911 vs K11

Hey guys sorry if this has been posted before but i just came of age to buy rifles and recently started collecting mil surps and have my eyes on a swiss rifle. Gander mtn near me has a k11 for sale and a 1911 both in roughly same condition an both for 350. Most importantly i was wondering which would be best to own and shoot. Also what are big things i should know about both of them such as cleaning, how bolt works etc (i know its a straight bolt). Also what do you all think of the price. I was also wondering if there was any comparison to different guns. I currently own a german mauser, m91/30, m44, steyrm95 carbine, sks, and a enfield n4 m2. I know ive been busy

Dixie gun an knife show is coming to raliegh nc in two weeks so i wont be deciding till i go there to see if there is a better deal. Also how much longer is the surplus ammo from the 90s i think thats good an non corrosive going to be around. I found 480 for 280 at sgammo. Any better place.
Thanks so much for any help

In the same condition, a G11 beats a K11 because of the much, much longer sight radius. Also beats most other rifles with open sights. Clearly beats any rifle with Mauser-style V-sights. The bolt is easy to dismantle and reassemble once you know the trick. You should be able to find an online tutorial, or get "Military Rifle Disassembly and Reassembly". The tutorial for the K31icon bolt at the head of the forum should help you.

The price for the rifle would be high over here - no WWII mystique. I cannot comment on your local market.

Go for the ammo - it seems like a fair price, it is not going to get any cheaper, and you need to be an expert reloader to even equal the GP11 ammo, let alone improve on it. The most accurate surplus ammo I ever found. You will probably find that the G11 with GP11 ammo outperforms most of the other rifles on your list, all of which I have either tried out or own myself.

Gander Mountain has some of the highest gun prices I've ever seen but $350 on these doesn't sound bad unless they are in bad shape. The 1911 is a long rifle and may not fit in most rifle cases. Both work the same but the 1911 has a longer eye relief for sight picture which may or may not help some shooters. The K11 is obviously more handy as it is a much smaller rifle. The K11 is probably my second favorite milsurp second only to the K31icon. They are easy to operate, extremely accurate and a blast to shoot. Hard to beat the surplus ammo for accuracy and expense. There were fewer 1911's made but the K11 is more popular and values are higher for that reason. For details on care, just look through the past postings on them here. They were usually extremely well maintained so not too much needed unless the previous owner messed them up.

At those prices, they may not be there in two weeks, I doubt they would in my area at least. Both are typically in the $400 range. K31's on the other hand can be found in the $250-$300 range if you wait. Of the three, the K31 is the most popular. It's the most modern and most accurate by most standards. Prices remain a bargain for the quality you are getting.

When I had a chance to buy a Schmidt Rubin from a collection that was being parcelled out, I chose a K-11, as it simply felt "slicker" than the K-31s in the bunch.

If i had been REALLY flush, however, I would have grabbed the ZFK-55 package. Alternately, my wife might have noticed the missing children that had been sold to pay the asking price.

The bloke (sans children but with a very understanding spouse) who bought it let me whack some GP-11 down-range with it: VERY nice piece if kit.
