Cantom, if you could provide us with any further information such as an Obitiuary, we'd appreciate it. We'd like to add his name to our ++++ In Memoriam ++++ remembrance wall thread.

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Bren Chests were used for some of the early (T)'s.

The chest certainly looks kosher to me. It doesn't look like something somebody made up.

BTW, Wheaty did some fixes on the scope for me on this rifle, and today I took it to the range and sighted it in.

    A very nice rifle!

REL, in their infinite wisdom, on some of their scopes soldered every single screw and adjustment on the scope. Thus it's next to impossible to do anything with it except leave it as it is.

On this rifle, the scope post was adjusted so it only adjusted a bit over to the left side of the tube, furthest it would move over was to the centre. I could not get the adjusting nut loose as it was soldered in place plus tight, so Warren did his magic on it.

Considering that the rifle, scope bracket and scope were mismatched, I'm very pleased with how this collimates...it's dead nuts.

What distances did you fire it at Tom?

I shot it on a 100 yard range only.
Would have been better but I was having magazine problems, the last round doesn't pick up reliably.

I got some incredible grunge out of the bore. I had cleaned it before with a boiling kettle and CLP, but only got some. But after some clean modern ammo today, plus 2 more boiling kettles, it's better than perfect.

Good collimation cannot be claimed after only firing at one distance. It's easy enough to zero a rifle at any particular range. The collimation comes in when you shoot several hundred yards further and see if, after adjusting the scope for the appropriate distance, it remains on target. If collimation is off, the error will be multiplied by the successive distance.
