    That auction site.....

I know that it comes in for a bit of stick, most of it undeserved in my opinion, but there some fantastic deals there and at extremely good value too. Yep....., I know that value, price and worth are not the same thing but......... I put a complete, brand new, unused, never even fitted Mk1 Bren butt PLUS all of the fittings, again, all brand new and still greasy on that auction site. I mean....., where will you ever find/see a used/serviceable one again - let alone new? And how many Mk1 guns are there fitted with later Mk2 butts? Hundreds!. Just a hundred hits and 4 bids........... Good value or what. I bet we'll see that advertised again soon on a gun related site soon.

These good deals are there but you just gotta swallow your pride and start looking.

X-xxx is the one that generally gets a load of stick from the forumers. Known here as 'that auction site'

Thanks Peter. I wondered but there's also GunBroker and I thought maybe there was another site that I didn't know about.

What's wrong with eBay? There is the occasional scammer but they are everywhere. I saw a guy selling USGI mags on eBay that weren't USGI. He also had listings on GunBroker and the CMPicon forums for the same mags.

    Everywhere...just like Elvis.

I think X-xxx ( as bad as I hate to admit it) is probably the best source for milsurps odds and ends and in reality establishes the true value of an item. Have gotten a bargin or two there but the more collectable & rare items seem to elude me due to my frugality. Many with deep pockets lurking there.

Yes and not to mention shill bidding as I suspect goes on as I have placed bids on things and within a matter of minutes another has swooped in and bid a most strange tactic I am not scared to have a go at things but even I drop off when things get a bit suss and yes flea bay is good and the weird and forgotten often turns up there from the hoarders or those that have not a clue.

Part of the issue is sniping software(independent of x-xxx proxy bids) that allows automatic bidding at the last second. And don't forget the stuff that sells cheap when I am otherwise occupied and unable to bid.
Best stratigy seems to be a last second bid or look for good items mislisted. Still looking for the No 5 bayonet listed as "old knife".

Rule #1 - You are all my friends
Rule #2 - I don't mix my ebay with my friends until after the auction is over.
Rule #3 - If I know my friends are seeking something I am not and I see it, I will let them know disregarding rule #2.

I'm not spending much time on ebay anymore. Not much out there I'm seeking at the moment. I need an extractor for a Gras, cleaning rods for Italianicon 1895, Italian Vetterli, and three bayonets, Hanyang, Polish 98 and Dutch Mannlicher carbine.

I find myself watching Gunbroker more and more.
