I would think that most of these are being machined on CNC equipment. It should not be to hard to write the code to produce 100% accurate reproductions

Unless the lenses are being ground that way too and are being formed from the same mix of glass, then you WILL need to have some form of built in adjustment. The mechanics ain't difficult...........

I am in the dark on MOD contacts but wouldn't the contract specifications exist for the 32? It should detail materials and quality of the lenses.

The lens spec does indeed exist Ricky and we have had them remanufactured. But you cannot get the old flint glass to that spec now. What you get is the same optical spec but with different glass.................... And the lenses are slightly thinner which affects the focal length when you have TWO lenses in a plossl cell configuration. Or a single lens, as in the OG lens that has to be spaced differently to cater with this.

    Peter,

Thanks for the information. So it is a case of no longer available lenses to be 100% correct reproduction.

Unless you took the advice dished out ages ago AND GET YOURSELF A SPARE NO42 OR 53 SCOPE NOW, WHILE YOU CAN. Any telescope that comes through me now, that needs lenses (usually the OG lenses) gets expensive English made reproductions. Unless they can supply a No42 donor....

I've had most of the current crop of repro's apart for service and have identified at least 4 manufacturers...
The current repro scope being sold on "that auction site (TAS)" I cannot recommend other than for show. The scope will not stand up to the rigors of use. There are a number of issues with the "TAS" scope and I'd rather not go into them publicly. PM if you have one of the "TAS" scopes and are having problems. I can probably help you.
I have NO stake in any of this at all, other than trying to help those that have spend some hard earned cash on a repro scope.
The current crop of repro scopes look better than the early ones, but that is where it ends. Esthetics do not cut it when trying to use one for it's intended purpose...shooting
The best of the repro scopes was the first batch and once you learned the ropes on repairing them they were not bad to work on. The tear down of the repro's was a huge departure from the normal No. 32 scope.
They are NOT an original 32 scope or even close, plus there are no repair manuals or "good old boys" who worked on the repro's are around to assist you, so you are on your own with repairs or parts.
However, unless you had one of the repro's to experiment on it is difficult to have to use brute force on someone else' s property then end up having to pay for it if you screwed it up.
There was an issue that did crop up on the first batch of repro's, however all the ones that I repaired were caused by the owner's themselves by forcing the scope into a sub standard mount. The aligning pin on the scope was larger than the slot in the mount. Some tubes were even collapsed by the owners. One batch of "off shore" mounts sold by a US dealer were TOTAL crap!!!!! The torque that can be applied with the mount cap screws is incredible and it actually sheared the locking screws off the turret assembly from the tube and then the fun began. The turret assembly was locked to the tube with screws and not cast on the tube as they were with the real No.32 scope. In overall quality, the repro's mirrored that of any of the old TASCO scopes on the market....as a military scope they did not meet any MIL SPEC specifications I am aware of (other than possibly the lenses) and I don't think the scope was intended to meet MIL_SPEC nor could ever hope to do so.
The lenses on all the repro's I looked at were of good quality and while all were of different specifications on all the examples I examined the glass they were optically good and met or exceeded specifications for lenses. I had the lenses checked by an optical lab, out of my own curiosity and to have a coffee with the lab guys to try and learn an thing or two about lens manufacturing. The lens spec's mean nothing to anyone except an optical engineer or optician but the repro lenses are good. At least the ones I had checked. Lenses are GLASS other than one model that has a plastic none optical ocular lens cover. Again, lenses are very good quality.
Some do not like the the repro's but then I never met a mechanic who worked at Ford that liked GM .....until he worked there.
Sort of like comparing a Raleigh car to a Cadillac....They both get you from A to B but in varying degrees of comfort and safety.
Anyone who is looking for one of the older model scopes is now out of luck as production ceased some time ago and there are no more slated to be manufactured.
There is reported to be, a manufacturer out of eastern Europe, who is supposed to be starting to make a repro 32 scopes so until I get one of those in my hot little hands I cannot comment. Maybe we will get lucky this time with a totally compatible (parts wise) and exact copy of a 32 and hopefully the Mk. III variant.
    Time will tell.
Again, I have no stake in any of the repro scopes but having worked on most of the different types currently available thought it was time to tell it as it is.
I've just been to busy to do this before.............

I dont know the rsm No32 repro..But I got a PEM from this manufacturer with aberrations, also when you move windage the reticle moves on elevation (and when you move elevation the reticle moves from one side to other),also the green coating sucks.
