A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. I think you'll find mostly 1907 slings were still in use then. I think you can find canvas slings marked 1943 but not sure...I have a 1944...one WW2 vet stated he'd never seen web slings at all during the war.(on rifles)

Didn't the Marines use a pre WW2 pattern webbing sling? other than the M1928, they are pretty uncommon in the US but the Marines left a few here. Ive got one dated 1942. I forget which pattern it is and I'm not with my books.

Your sling dated 1942 is likely a leather 1907. Yes, there was a web sling M1923..Attachment 55734 and a Kerr web sling...Attachment 55735

I still think the one you want is the 1907.
