From photos, one can often tell if something has been faked up, but not being able to do so does not prove that the assembly is an all-original configuration. I haven't noticed anything obviously wrong, and it looks good enough to be worth a very careful hands-on investigation. Look for tiny wear marks (scratches, smears) that run across boundaries between components, indicating that those components have been together for a long time. There is so much faking going on with WWII markings that I would leave them entirely out of consideration, unless you spot an obvious inconsistency. Just check the wear compatibility of the parts - a very difficult thing to fake!

BTW, a close-up of the barrel markings just in front of the receiver ring would be helpful. The rifle may have been imported to Germanyicon and reproofed at some stage.

Is that German K98kicon or a Yugoicon M48 short rifle? I believe I can see part of the Yugo communist crest on the receiver ring in the second photo. The brief description says it's Serbian.

Good question Vintage Hunter, so let's make that:

"Bigduke6, we need to see clear photos of the markings on the barrel AND the receiver ring!"

And in such a case, any seller's stories can only count as nth-hand hearsay. A large proportion of what came out of the Balkans is "bitsa" rifles, as succeeding generations re-used the bits of whatever was available to make a functioning weapon, from 1940s partisans through to the latest conflicts - and, of course, Bubbas and dealers today. Let's see the markings.

Thanks Patrick, it didn't strike me as being out of place, shame its not on a Germanicon made Mauser but I doubt if it would be that price. Think it may be worth a look.

    Patrick, VH,

I have asked for more pics etc, I know the rifle is a Yugoicon but was more interested in the scope and mount... and it has its scope tin also.
