Can you ID this part?

It looks like a M1 Garand tool, but it is different than any I have seen before. I can find it in any reference books. The rods thread in the offset brass fitting, not in the middle as the M10 tool does. Click on the link above for pictures.

Any ideas?

Without seeing the picture, it sounds like the handle to a cleaning rod produced for the Marine Corps circa 1951/52. The handles are quite common, complete rods are scarce.

I've had this for several years. The complete kit is shown. Manufacturer is L.T. CO.

Your cleaning rod is marked E.T. Co, for Evertite Manufacturing, a WWII contractor of the 3 Sectioned M1 Rod for the BMG. Some depot took the handle and converted it to fit the sectional rod. It was not manufactured that way.

I'm grateful to whoever did it. He or she did an outstanding job. I use it on all my rifles and pistols.

That is definitely a tool for the M1 Garand. Never saw one like that before. I am sure it would be used the same way the standard tool is used. The last section of cleaning rod with the patch eye is unique also. Great find.

That is it, Marine Corps, 1951-52. I have an acquaintance that has a prototype made of steel. I have been trying to purchase it for years.

Nice find. There was a special cloth case that accompanied that rod.
