    interesting Remington 03A3

I traded a AR with scope for this gun and I think it's pretty special. The gun was packed in cosmolene, the lightening cuts were full, the magazine was full etc and it took 4 hours to clean it. I used DA and a soft brush on the stock and gasoline on the metal. The rifle looks unissued but here's where it gets strange....it has a OG stamp on it but has several parts changed out as they are Parkerized.

With John Beardicon's permission, here is what he says about 4134868. I suggest you print this and keep it in your reference folder.

"Thanks for the data and photos of your rifle! And congratulations!

You have a splendid rifle! But I’m not quite sure what to make of it. Most “O G” marked rifles are in new or near-new condition. The “O G” is merely a re-inspection stamp applied, perhaps, prior to shipment authorization from the DCM. And most of your rifle fits that description. But I note that some parts (bolt, bayonet band, trigger guard, etc.) have been replaced with refinished parts. So evidently, your rifle underwent more extensive repairs prior to shipment. One can only speculate why.

A few “O G” rifles were fitted with replacement bolts, perhaps to correct a headspace issue. But that’s usually the extent of replacement parts. In answer to your question in your previous message, I believe the refinished parts were installed at Ogden. I can only assume that, for some reason, your rifle failed re-inspection. Perhaps it wouldn't feed properly from the magazine. One can only speculate. So inspectors at Ogden replaced parts until the problem was corrected. Thanks again for taking the time to make and send photos of your rifle! And congratulations again! J.B."

At any rate it is a beauty and all parts are marked R. The 12-43 barrel gauges under zero. The trade also included a beautiful 1905 bayonet with a USN marked scabbard.

The OG rifles with the 3 sided box were overhauled at Ogden during WWII.

I believe it indicates serviceable for issue by the DCM. There were also some marked US for unserviceable that the DCM sold at a discount. These rifles turned out to be just fine.
