A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. I doubt that there was a "one size fits all" solution, which is why the foresight blades were available in different heights. So there is no magic answer - pick the one that works with the ammo that is available!

Can't go wrong with the various books by Ian Skennertonicon.
The one I have is "The Lee Enfield Story" but it is expensive.

I highly recommend The Lee Enfield: A Century of Lee-Metford & Lee-Enfield Rifles & Carbines by Ian Skennertonicon. I may be expensive but it is worth every single coin you throw towards it!!

Mine are not the best, but they are not too bad. I can think of lots of Enfields I'd rather have but instead of constantly striving for more, sometimes it's good to be satisfied with what one has...

Ian Skennertonicon did 3 Lee Enfield histories, roughly 10 years apart. (Well, 1982, 1993 and 2007)

The book in Alan d E's post is the second one.

For the latest version, look on Ian Skennerton's website - the list price is a bit less than the ebay one, and postage from the colonies is not that bad.

Skennertons books are good, Major E B Reynolds "The Lee Enfield Rifleicon", Stratton also does one on them either way you are going to have to part with a bit of cash to get the copy you want I have 2 of Skennertons books the Reynolds one and Strattons also others somewhere buried in my collection! but heck there are oodles out there just personal preference.
But for a one of buy Skennertons latest one is a good one to get as it is much expanded on his previous 2 versions.

The latest edition of Skennertonicon's book (£69.95 + postage) and the smaller, 'Small Arms Identification Series' are available mail order from Jeremy Tenniswood in Colchester, Essex.

    Militaria

I can recommend the great service and knowledge you will find there.

    Regards

    Mike

This question begs another: do we have a list of such books on this site somewhere?
“There are invisible rulers who control the destinies of millions. It is not generally realized to what extent the words and actions of our most influential public men are dictated by shrewd persons operating behind the scenes.”

    Edward Bernays, 1928

Much changes, much remains the same.
