    XL39.E1 Butt Cofiguration

Just received a bunch of Enfield Riflesicon L39s, No4 Conv and a couple of enforcers, in amongst them were was also a XL39.E1.

The butt is the No8 type but is slightly modified for right hand use, the butt is also marked "UX 4"

Not sure if the modified butt is original or just modified by some civillian shooter.

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. RAF Uxbridge. The EMER authority allowed units to change and adapt the L39 (and the No8) to suit civilian type competitions and this included the fitting of the No8 butt, sights, rail in the fore-ends etc etc. So if a cack handed shooter wanted a bbutt more suited to his affliction there's no reason why it couldn't be modified. BUT they had to be returned to Ordnance in the issued condition. They were not ever ISSUED in anything but the standartde condition.

    Next question........

Will the fact that this is an early "experimental" L39 attract a premium?
Will this batch of Enfields be going on to the shooting market, or will they be deactivated?
