    Smile Yugo M48

I am the proud new owner of a Yugoicon M48 8mm Mauser. The bolt, and barrel have matching serial numbers and the rifling is in superb condition. I have taken it to the range and using the standard military sights started shooting at 50 yards. After learning the sights of the rifle and getting 3/4" to 1" groupings I moved to the 100' range. My first two shots were a bit high, so after more careful positioning I was able to start getting a consistent 1" to 2" pattern. So, it appears that I have managed to acquire a really great rifle. Because I forgot my information for first registering with this website, I had to start over and re-register. I will most definitely not alter the originality of this rifle in any way. But, I would like to be able to have a scope for deer hunting.

Does anyone have any knowledge about this rifle being used as a sniper rifle, or any of it's predecessors? After doing some research I have found a scope mounting system that does not require any alterations to the originality of the rifle. What I want to know is what is available as far as long-eye-relief scopes, what the Yugo's used for adding scopes etc.

I put an NC star copy of the Aimpoint on an M4gery and it shock the lenses loose in less than a year. I'd be afraid an 8mm would do it in much less...?

So, I am assuming that no one makes a long-eye scope with a higher magnification! But, thanks for the info. I will look into the S&K mount as well as keep doing some research. I do believe there are some mounts available that come from Yugoslaviaicon that are rifle-specific. I just don't remember the name and where to get them. Please keep me in mind in case you hear anything. Right now I am shoot Yugo ammo 197 SP's and having admirable accuracy for military sights. Thanks for your input.

    Yugo M48

Someone once responded to a post I placed about my Yugoicon M48 8mm Mauser. They gave me the name of a Yugoslavian scope mount system that might increase the value of the rifle. I cannot remember the name of that scope mounting system. Anyone know what I am talking about?

With Claven2's help, I built an M48A repro sniper a few years ago as well.

I just did a search on the phrase 'zrak" here and a few old threads from 2007 turned up, as well as I've posted the photo album for the one I built, which I have since sold.

Some other sites that you might want to look at ..

    Hope this helps ...

Zrak out of the former Yugoslaviaicon made scope mounts for the M48 and they were used in the recent civil war there. As mentioned by steve the M48 is an intermediate length action, a little shorter than the standard K98icon. Yugo mausers are some of the best shooters out there as many of the German capture K98's were rebarrelled by the Yugos with brand new barrels.

There are long eye relief scopes out there with high magnification but I wouldn't recommend them. The higher the magnification, the less you can see in the scope and with the long eye relief, this can make it very hard to find the target and it also doesn't really seem to help "see" it any better when you do it. I have a 2-9 on a Thompson Contender and anything over 4 is useless.

Yugo M48 ZRAK Scope & Mounts

I am still trying to gather information about the ZRAK scopes and different mounts that were used on the Yugoicon M48 models. I'm getting bits and pieces about how and where to get these items, but I am really wanting to know more about what is available as far as the variety of, types of, magnification & objective lense information of, and specs of both scopes and mounts. I want to keep my M48 a strictly Yugo product.

    Appreciate any help & photos!

    Nathan

    Yugo M48

It seems that P & A Distributors is not answering calls, e-mails, or communication. Maybe they are shut down till after the new year. Anyway, I need other sources to procure a ZRAK scope mount for my Yugoicon M48. I want to keep the rifle original. My thinking is I could use the ZRAK scope mount, which I believe is 30mm, and find a variable power American made scope, or other, that would fit. I do not want a LER scope. Does anyone know anything about anything? Please respond!
