When I was in Saudi we were offered Surplus HUMVEEs for $100 but we had to sign an agreement and prove you could remove it from the country. No one bothered in the end as most of us just wanted to buy one for the months we were there and then just dump it.

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. I will accept PayPal, Zelle, MO and good old checks (and cash if you want to stop by for a tour!). CLICK BANNER to send me a PM for International pricing and shipping. Manufacturer of various vintage rifle scopes for the 1903 such as our M73G4 (reproduction of the Weaver 330C) and Malcolm 8X Gen II (Unertl reproduction). Several of our scopes are used in the CMP Vintage Sniper competition on top of 1903 rifles. Brian Dick ... The civilian H1 is basically the same vehicle as the military HMMWV. The civilian model has all the DOT required safety equipment. The military version has the horrible seat cushions and all the standard military gauges, lighting, cabin system controls and military accouterments. They are the same length, width and height.

I watched the first batch (25) in Utah. They went between $21,000 and $41,000. Pretty high for something you can't drive on the street.

There only 11 in the January 7th auction. GovPlanet - Surplus Military and Government Vehicles, Trailers and Equipment

I never cared for the HUMMWV. I was in the first group to get licensed for them when the Maine National Guard got them and soon discovered that they were just too darn big to big for off-road use around here. Any honest person who has ever driven one will tell you that they are very stable however.
The original ones we got had a very interesting flaw. The battery was under the passenger side front seat. When some one road it that seat for any length of time the seat springs would hit the top of the battery and short out. The passenger would soon after truly be sitting in the hot seat.

I played around with one on tank trails in Camp Edwards in Massachusetts until they drove us off. It did fairly well in the sand.

Got one stuck in a wet pasture out near Meiningen FRG one night. took a tank recovery vehicle to get it out. No half measures for me!

That said, I would not get one if they were given away for free.
