    M1 Carbines in Paris

I noticed some of the Police/Military in the Paris affair this morning on the T.V. were armed with M1icon carbines. Thought that might be of interest.

I was watching and thought i saw a M1icon carbine however my next thought was I must have been mistaken. Rather odd IMO but a decent gun for working in confined areas compared to a longer bolt rifle.
Why use a 50 pound bomb when a 500 pound bomb will do?

Not from the last few days, but it's a better picture of the Mini-14 armed CRS.

I may have been wrong. I thought the 1st. pic I saw this morning was an M1icon carbine, with a wood H.G. and a carbine mag. I certainly could have been mistaken and saw a Mini-14.

I like the stock - it almost looks like there's an oiler in that slot. If they're using slings, I wonder how they are attached at the front? The factory stocks came with a sling swivel attached at the bottom. - Bob

Now I see the sling, but not how it's fastened at the front.

A Google search turned up a lot of discussion on these guns. Some of it going back several years. I didn't have time to sort it all out, but either modified by the Frenchicon or made special for them. Remember too, that early Mini's had wood handguards. The French have their own name for these guns, AMD 556 I think it was. Some think it's a variation of the AC-556 like police here used. One picture I found shows a special sight, charging handle, and what some think might be the selector switch. - Bob
