Six Digit Springfield

Just thought I would share my new toy I brought home from the gunshow today. While browsing tables I saw an older gentleman with a couple garands out for sale stuck in between modern stuff. Well, after seeing the six digit serial and the good condition I brought it home. From the serial number, it dates to Aug. 1941 and has been re- barrelled with a SA 4-53 barrel that has sharp grooves and gages just a fraction under 2. Predominantly SA parts from the limited exam I gave it so far at home but certainly gone through rebuild.......serial 33243x, bolt D28287-2 SA and REC4 beneath that, safety SA, trigger housing 6528290 - SA, receiver leg RE 3B over D28291-12 SA, hammer IHC C5546006, gas cylinder lock screw PO. Only marks on the sanded stock is a faint circled P on the grip and slight remains of one side of a box on the side.

Also the modified op rod, T105 rear sight, plain lower band...but it doesn't matter, nice to see an early rifle. Let us know when you get out to warm it up?

Yep, I knew it had replaced/later part but still nice condition. Being so early, I wish this one could talk about where it's been. I hope to try it out next week at a nearby indoor range but the bad thing about that is only having a 25yd line. Oh well, at least I can get a zero for that range and hopefully later get to a longer range. If I remember correctly, a zero at that range and come up a couple clicks would be pretty close for 200?

25 and battle range of 250 should be about the same. You can look at the ammo tables for your ammo and find out exactly where the strike should be to be on at the distant range you want. Just hunt it out here by name for your ammo. At 25 you should get a nice little rathole of a group...we'll be waiting.

Recently at Camp Perry and bought (2) M1D's. the first one had a serial of 258XXX and the second with 186XXX. These go with the Danish barreled one I bought at a gun show with serial 208XXX. Cheers, Bruce.

Start with 9 clicks of elevation and zero windage, walk it to 6 o'clock with 3-shot groups. At 25 yards each click should move the center of the group 1/4 inch.
