    R1A1 Barrels

Just picked up a nice R1A1. Is the barrel chrome lined? Thanks, Bruce.

Unfortunitly we can't give you any information about the barrel.

'R1A1' is a commercial name done by Century and the rifle can be made up from an asortment of 'metric' and 'inch' parts.

You will need to provide photos of the barrel and the markings that are on the barrel to allow someone to answer your question

Well, took the hand guards off and found that there were NO markings at all. It has a short twelve hole flash suppressor and that's about it. Cheers, Bruce.

Quick test for "chrome" barrels (and other bits).

Clean and degrease the part thoroughly.

Apply a small dab of liquid "cold blue" (G-96 or similar) to the area in question. Cotton buds are a handy device.

If the surface takes on a "darkish" colour, you are looking at un-coated steel.

No colouration usually means chrome coating or stainless steel.

Don't forget to re-clean and oil the barrel / part after the test: excess blueing compounds left on plain steels can cause a nasty outbreak of rust in short order.
