I think you are confusing two different guns. The first gun that was painted (OP) was on GunBroker, the second gun without the stock was on eBay. It doesn't say anything about going to an FFL holder. I think he had another one listed also.

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. I apologize for that. I thought about bidding on either one, however the poster's talked me out of number one, the other one i posted was due to some side discussion on braking up krags on ebay or gunbroker (i didnt bid on the ebay one because knowing by luck i'd earn the wrath of the BATFE)

Sometimes I let the sellers know that they're breaking the law. Other times, I don't bother. Even had one guy let me know he was a FFL, but didn't think of that barreled 98 receiver as a gun. He was selling all the rest of the parts too!
