    Polish Flare Gun

A month or so ago I bought a Yugoicon flare gun and was really impressed by it.

Yesterday I got a flyer from Sportsman's Guide with an ad for a Polish flare gun at $69.99 or $62.99 if you are a member.

Now the quality does not appear to be as good as the Yugo model but for the price it's worth considering. I did place an order for one myself along with a Germanicon model which is priced considerably more.

Sort of a niche collection but they are military surplus and there are quite a few varieties out there and prices aren't bad compared to some bayonets and firearms.

The German flare gun is supposed to be the Rolls Royce of flare guns based on online opinions.

Another thing to consider is the supply of these isn't going to last long. With the new UN treaty a lot of European countries have decided to melt down their surplus items rather than sell them and this includes the flare guns apparently. Nearly every place I checked to compare prices is sold out of all but the Polish model and Sportsman's Guide is the lowest price (on sale) that I found.

One problem is the website does not show the sale price but their regular sale price which is $99.99. You have to call them. Item # B5M8-612709 Polish Flare Gun with Holster (shoulder bag in unissued condition) Price good until March 31.

Flare guns arrived today. 1st impressions are that the Germanicon model is the least well built of the three which really surprises me. Perhaps it is East German. Further inspections required. The German gun is like new/lightly used in a new but very cheap holster. The Polish gun is lightly used but poorly stored as it has rust residue and some pitting in one area. It came in a brand new but slightly discolored shoulder bag which is made out of heavy canvas with leather attachments. Both arrived clean and ready to use as opposed to the Yugoicon which was basically glued together with cosmolineicon. Photos later.

Too expensive. I've been getting them at the gun shows for $35 for 10. Ordering through the mail involves a hazmat charge that gets pretty pricey. Only ones I haven't found yet and want pretty bad are the parachute flares. Everyone's been sold out of them for a while.
