Image of 1903 Springfield

Some time ago on the old site, a member posted an image from a war poster. It was a soldier leaving home in uniform with a 1903 Springfield. His hunting dog wants to follow him. The soldier states "Not ths time old buddy". If some one has and can repost that inage or a link to it, i'd be grateful

Check Epay or Gunbroker, or AuctionArms. A seller has been hawking repro's of that poster for years. He puts up a pic in the listing. Search "1903 Springfield", without the parenthesis.

Interesting... that pic was from a 1917 Hercules Powder promotional poster or calendar from 1917. I see the artist, ARTHUR DAVENPORT FULLER (1889-1966), actually had a sequel to that one... the homecoming titled "The Surprise Party".

I have seen several versions of that "good bye", but find it hard to envision a situation where an American soldier would have kept his rifle at home or had it with him on leave. Romantic image, but U.S. soldiers (unlike British icon

soldiers) did not keep a particular rifle during their term of service. The rifle was unit property and unless the whole unit was transferred together, the rifles stayed where they were.
