No. 1 Mk.111 Front Sight Blade thickness

Does anyone know of a source for thicker (not higher/lower) front sight blades ?

I was speaking to a gentleman at the range last week. A .303 shooter from way back. He told me that as his eyesight deteriorated he changed to a thicker front sight blade that more or less "framed" the black at 300yds. He found this much easier, and more accurate than a 6 o'clock hold. Because of the difficulty he had in getting a consistent amount of white between the sight blade and the black. As my eyes are heading in the same direction, this might be worth a try.

I've thrashed Google mercilessly, but can't see these things available anywhere, and I neglected to ask the gentleman where he got the thing. Any comments or information would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
    Mungo.

There were many types of custom foresight blade made, e.g. by Parker Hale, AJ Parker, Brindles, Stensbys, et al.

The problem is you are trying to track down a commodity which was being manufactured and retailed about 50+ years ago! All of the above-named gunsmiths have themselves closed up and disappeared.

Your options are to keep searching eBay, hoping that someone recognises what they are selling and lists it as such, or fabricate your own by adding material to an existing blade.

    Mungo,

I,ve a box of assorted blades but think they are all of the high low type but will have a look later and see if there are any thicker ones.

Isn't the No 4 blade thicker Mungo?

I put one on me old Ishapore, but that was because I needed a taller one & it suited. Still, I Think they are thicker, I'll measure if I get a minute later.

51 thou was the width of the government blade but commercial firms put out thicker ones - I had a 100 thou P-H one on my old rifle.
