Scout Regt. Mk IIs Maker Help

    Greetings All

Picked this gem up a few weeks ago and have been unable to determine who made it. There are no /|\ stamps so it most likely is a private contract but it appears well used.

    Thanks in advance!!

Me neither! Looks like the third draw has pulled the thread out (the bright threaded collar you see encircling the ocular lens)

R.E.L. made three draws had black crackle finish paint rather than leather on the body and sunshade, and also very dark blackening of the draws, like this one, but the markings look very odd.

Is that a small "T" between the "L" and the "R"? As in a vestige of the "Ltd" marking one sometimes sees on instruments etc.

    And "R.I."??

Lots of three draw telescopes built up from surplus parts after both wars. Perhaps someone decided to make one look more military?

The wobbly engraving and white picking doesn't inspire confidence either.

Much changes, much remains the same.

It certainly does look like the remains of the letters 'Ltd' - as in B&C Ltd or so. I have seen what are/were obviously Sct Regt Scopes 'civilianised' by being linished over and re-engraved with the commercial dealers name and logo. Army and Navy stores, Lillywhites, Steward and Co. Just acquired one cheap off that site for spare parts but it was better than the one I was repairing! So with a bit of jiggery-pokery, put the 3rd draw from the Sct Reg scope into the commercialised oine and hey....., bobs your uncle!
