My Dec. 1941 Garand

Had posted these pictures on the CMP site and decided to post here. I bought this rifle in 1991. It is either original or pretty much so or a very good restoration. All parts are correct and match well. All parts show very little use and rifle is not British proofed. I have bought and sold many M1s over the past 30 plus years but this one was a keeper.

Tom, This is the only picture I had in photobucket of the Gas Cylinder. One other shot that shows whole rifle. As you can see, the Gas cylinder finish is somewhat thin which is pretty much the norm for this period.

Joe, thanks for the photos of the gas cylinder.

Yes, many gas cylinders on the early guns lost their finish. This was particularly a problem with the Molyblack coating used on them.

What do you see that leads you to suspect it? It looks fine to me. I don't see any of the discrepancies seen on most of the fakes
