I finally got around to machining a screw to fit the rear sight retaining spring hole only to find out the the threads on the rifle were pretty well buggered probably why the rifle didn't have the screw with it. That being said what would the process be for adapting the thread to 4BA. Fill the hole with silver solder then re-drill drill with the correct tapping drill then tap it?

The hole through the sight base is threaded but not the one in the barrel. The screw is only threaded on it's upper half and acts as a locating pin. I guess you could remove the base then fill, drill and tap it's hole. Replacing the base with another can be tricky as they're not all interchangeable.

    That thread is used on:

    Screw guard trigger back No1
    Screw spring sight back No1
    Screw spring sight back No3
    Screw (retaining) striker No1

    The form is 60deg.

It is as near as possible to 4BA.

Enfield Locks thread (13) and the previous offerings makes me wonder why you're bothering with all this palava Lucite! We have a saying that '.....where there's a will, there's a way' But in this case it's a case of amending it to '....where there's a will, there's an EASIER way.............surely!

I went for the easiest option which was to try one of the other .144 x 37tpi screws in the hole and thankfully it managed to "chase" the thread then I just turned a new screw and after much trial and error here is the result. Granted the time and effort I put into the screw the thing probably would cost as much as the rifle but that being said the experience gained from this endeavour is priceless.
